According to Digitimes, Apple is preparing the arrival of a new 12.9-inch iPad Pro model equipped with a mini LED screen. The article in question highlights the efforts of the Californian giant to diversify its supplies and its production chain.
GIS, General Interface Solution, would have thus recovered a contract to produce touch screens for a new large-format iPad Pro equipped with mini LED backlighting technology. A tablet that should be launched in the first quarter of 2021.
For several months, rumors have multiplied both on the appearance of the mini LED in Apple’s professional tablets but also on a launch at the beginning of the year.
The Digitimes article is however interesting because it suggests that only the 12.9-inch iPad Pro could adopt the mini LED, initially, the 11-inch model would retain a more classic LCD panel.
The two Pro tablets would thus be distinguished by other than the size of their display. It makes you wonder what future Apple has in store for its small-format iPad Pro which is now closely followed by the iPad Air, launched last October.
The mini LED could become the element that differentiates Pro devices from consumer machines at Apple. Other rumors want the MacBook Pros to adopt the mini LED as well, in addition to a new design.
