On its website, Airbnb announced that it was canceling home reservations made in the Washington DC area, following requests from various local, state, and federal officials not to travel to the capital for the Joe Biden nomination on January 20.
Airbnb also explains that the authorities have discovered that armed militias and violent groups were trying to move to Washington to disrupt the inauguration.
Some accounts banned from the platform
Since the assault on the Capitol on January 6, the platform has sought to find and ban from its site all individuals identified as having participated in this intrusion.
“We continue to work to ensure that members of these groups are not part of the Airbnb community. When we learn through the media or law enforcement sources of the names of individuals confirmed to be guilty of violent criminal activity on the U.S. Capitol on January 6, we are investigating whether the individuals named have accounts on Airbnb. ”
The platform also decided to ban all people known to belong to an ultra-violent small group.
