Sponsors to obtain financing for a company, Dark mode, GHES 3.0… GitHub unveils a series of new features during its Universe conference.

The virtual edition of the GitHub Universe conference is in full swing this week.

The development and shared code platform unveil a series of new features and updates. All are designed to improve the experience of developers and strengthen the professionalization of the ecosystem.

Here are the main announcements communicated by the American company:

Sponsors, Dark mode, Actions …

– Sponsors for companies:

Like other supports, companies now have the possibility, with GitHub Sponsors for companies, to fund open-source projects and their contributors directly from GitHub. Among the companies, already ready to invest are Amazon Web Services (AWS), American Express, Daimler AG, Stripe, New Relic, Indeed, Substack, and, unsurprisingly, Microsoft, which bought GitHub for $ 7.5 billion in 2018.

– Dark mode to activate:

The dark interface (Dark mode) joins the classic theme of GitHub. Dark mode (public beta) can be enabled by developers in their settings.

– Automatic merger of pull requests:

Developers will be able to automatically merge a pull request, once the checks have been made. The action thus applies to the protected branches. Available in the coming weeks, the feature can be activated in the repository settings of each GitHub user.

– Discussions for public repositories:

Discussions is now available for all public repositories. The feature allows developer communities to collaborate outside of the classic “codebase”. Developers can enable it in their repository settings.

– Examination of dependencies:

The beta will be available “in the coming weeks” as a feature of GitHub Advanced Security, said Shanku Niyogi, SVP Product at GitHub. The tool allows you to better understand the dependencies newly introduced at each pull request to reduce the risk of introducing vulnerabilities into the software code.

GitHub Enterprise Server 3.0
