Rumors about it appeared last year.
On June 24, Microsoft will hold a big presentation of the next generation of Windows. According to rumors, the system update will be so large that the platform itself will be called Windows 11. And among the main improvements will be not only the redesigned interface but also full support for Android applications. This is written by the portal MSPoweruser.
One of its main features was the support of applications developed for Android. Rumors about it appeared earlier, but now the company has confirmed it officially and shared the details.
The source cites changes to the latest version of the Windows subsystem to run Linux applications. There were two mentions of the behavior of the Android emulator. These records are probably only for developers, as well as the entire subsystem. However, journalists note that there is a chance to see something more than the next changes in the development journal.
Microsoft could well use the emulation in the Windows subsystem as the basis for transferring its own Android applications to Windows and the Microsoft Store. At the end of 2020, there were rumors that the company was already working on it.
It is possible that this is what Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella hinted at during the Build 2021 developer conference. He said at the time, “Soon we’ll be sharing one of the most significant Windows updates of the last decade to open up more opportunities for content developers and creators.”
According to him, Windows will become the most innovative, modern, and open platform for creating, distributing, and monetizing applications. The appearance of Android programs in the MS Store could well justify such high-profile statements.
However, the feature may not be available on all devices.
Android apps on Windows 11 will be available on Amazon Appstore, which is now built into the Microsoft Store, a completely redesigned Windows app store.
The launch of these applications on the Microsoft platform was made possible by working closely with Intel and using its post-compilation technology Bridge. The latter provides a seamless experience of interaction, allowing you to run Android programs on both Intel and AMD. The user will not see any emulators, downloads, and extra windows.
Microsoft assures that Bridge support will be available to all processor providers, including ARM. However, it is not yet clear whether apps will be available where Amazon Appstore is not officially launched, and whether it will be possible to launch apk files transferred to the device. Something will probably be clarified after the start of the testing program for the new system.
